Sealing a Deck

The wooden boards tend to be exposed to certain problems or get molded very quickly when they are exposed to some elements, walked over, scraped or scratched. A complete wash may help to give the deck a nicer look. The deck sealing is the best option to be done before the rain begins or when there would be a lot of sun on the deck. You will know how to seal a deck which will be done with a sealant which is obviously resistant to water and can also stand harsh weather conditions.  The decks add good look to the house and hence it is important to seal and color them.

Here are some steps which might help you how to stain and seal a deck. Materials needed are- hose, scrub brush, deck sealer, mop or stainer and gloves.

Step 1: The initial step is to check whether the deck is water resistant or not. Sprinkle some water through hose pipe on the surface of the deck. If the surface has water on it or beads on it then no need of sealing. If it seeps inside, there is a need for water seal deck.

Step 2: The deck sealer should be selected which is matches the type of your wood. Most of the sealers work on all kinds of wood.

Step 3: Spray the water on the deck so that it becomes completely wet.

Step 4: Wipe the deck properly to remove all molds and other material that has collected on the surface. If not cleaned properly, it may increase your problem.

Step 5: once again the deck has to be rinsed to remove any debris.

Step 6: allow the deck to completely dry for about 24 hours.

Step 7: Apply deck sealer with using paint roller or mop evenly on the deck surface. Avoid collection of sealer on its surface. A single cost must be spread evenly on the entire deck.

Step 8: Allow the sealer to dry before you walk on it.

Step 9: you can use oil or water base stainer, solid or semi solid transparent. Apply the material with a paint brush available at the hardware store. For a large deck spraying can be used as it will save time. This will also provide uniformity and your deck will look better.
